We are a volunteer-led group dedicated to supporting our community during the moments that matter most. Working alongside the National Ambulance Service, our trained responders are dispatched to life‑threatening emergencies such as cardiac arrests, strokes, and choking incidents within our local area.

Because we live and work within the community, we can often reach patients in the vital first minutes before an ambulance arrives — providing early CPR, defibrillation, and essential first aid that can make the difference between life and death.

At BNWCFR, our mission is simple:
to strengthen local emergency response, save lives, and empower our community with the skills and confidence to act in a crisis.

Through fundraising, training, and public awareness initiatives, we work to ensure every home, business, and neighbourhood in the Blanchardstown North West area is safer, more connected, and prepared for emergencies.

Together, we can build a community that looks after one another — one life at a time.

Main areas of our focus

Rapid Emergency Response

Every second matters during cardiac arrests, strokes, and other life‑threatening emergencies. Our trained Community First Responders are dispatched by the National Ambulance Service and can often reach patients within minutes — delivering early CPR, defibrillation, and immediate support until an ambulance arrives. This fast response strengthens the chain of survival and significantly increases the chances of recovery.

Community Training & Awareness

We believe a confident, informed community saves more lives. BNWCFR provides education on CPR, AED use, recognising medical emergencies, and taking safe, effective action while waiting for help. Through events, demonstrations, and outreach programmes, we empower residents, schools, businesses, and local groups with the skills that can make a lifesaving difference.

Fundraising & Equipment Support

As a volunteer‑led organisation, we rely on community generosity to maintain essential medical equipment — including defibrillators, responder kits, and safety supplies. Our fundraising efforts help ensure responders have the tools they need, and that more lifesaving equipment becomes accessible throughout Blanchardstown North West. Every donation, event, and partnership strengthens our ability to serve and protect our community.

FAQ

What is a Community First Responder (CFR)?

A Community First Responder is a trained volunteer who lives locally and is dispatched by the National Ambulance Service to attend life‑threatening emergencies in their area. CFRs provide critical early care — such as CPR, defibrillation, and basic first aid — in the vital minutes before an ambulance arrives, helping to greatly improve patient outcomes.

What types of emergencies do BNWCFR respond to?

We are activated for medical emergencies where early intervention can save a life, including:

  • Cardiac arrest
  • Chest pain
  • Stroke
  • Choking
  • Breathing difficulties
Once alerted, our responders travel directly to the scene and provide immediate assistance until paramedics arrive

Are CFRs a replacement for the ambulance service?

No. CFRs do not replace paramedics or emergency services. We work alongside the National Ambulance Service to strengthen the chain of survival. Our role is to arrive quickly, begin lifesaving care, and support the patient until the ambulance crew takes over.

Do responders need medical or healthcare experience?

No prior medical background is required. All volunteers receive accredited training in CPR, AED use, and emergency response skills. What matters most is commitment, reliability, and a desire to help your community.

How is BNWCFR funded?

We are a volunteer‑led organisation and rely fully on donations, fundraising events, and community support. Funds help us purchase essential equipment, maintain responder kits, and run local training and awareness programmes.

How can I support BNWCFR?

You can support us in several ways:

  • Make a donation
  • Attend or host a fundraising event
  • Share our message on social media
  • Become a volunteer responder
Every contribution, big or small, helps keep lifesaving services active in our community.

How do I become a volunteer?

If you'd like to join our team, simply reach out through our contact page or speak to one of our volunteers. We'll guide you through the application process, training requirements, and onboarding steps. Volunteers of all backgrounds are welcome.

Is my information kept private if a CFR assists me?

Yes. All responders follow strict confidentiality and data protection guidelines. Personal or medical information encountered during a call is treated with the highest level of discretion and professionalism.

Do CFRs use lights and sirens?

No. CFRs are not authorised to use blue lights, sirens, or drive at high speed. They travel safely to each emergency using their own vehicles, prioritising their safety and the safety of the public.
